Berries are low in calories and rich in nutrients and anti-oxidants. Most berries are high in fibre and rich with vitamin C.
Berries can also be found fresh year round at your supermarket so they are always convenient to get a hold of.
They are easy to bring into the diet as well. Just chuck some in with salads, cereals, smoothies etc.

Having a gradient will help displace the impact. The bigger the gradient, the friendlier it is on your joints and the harder it is on your muscles.
